Robots Play Soccer, Win World RoboCup

Led by Dennis Hong, director of the UCLA Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory, a team of engineering students from UCLA and University of Pennsylvania travel to China to compete in the RoboCup soccer competition. The robot, named THOR, is five feet tall, weighs 115 pounds, and bests the Baset Robot Laboratory of Tehran in the adult-size humanoid category to bring home the win. The team also earn the RoboCup’s Louis Vuitton Cup Best Humanoid Award, given to the team that best demonstrates advances in artificial intelligence and robotics.
